Naming and Ending Gender Apartheid

Gender apartheid refers to the systemic gender-based oppression and domination (Atlantic Council, 2024). Since their takeover of the country in 2021, the Taliban has issued over 70 decrees and directives aimed to control the autonomy, movement, speech, rights, and daily lives of women and girls, an affirmation of the systemic attack on women and girls (UN Women, 2024). It is critical for the international community to come together and support Afghan women and girls to give them back their rights. Right to Learn Afghanistan partners with organizations, like the Malala Fund, that advocate for the rights of Afghan women and girls.
